Haldi doodh, in my opinion, is nothing new to Indians. Haldi milk is what you drink when you’re unwell. Mothers give you haldi doodh when you have a cold. Turmeric is used to give milk its yellow color which is why it is also known as Golden Milk.
Turmeric milk holds a special place in Ayurveda. It has been used for a plethora of health and beauty benefits for ages.

Turmeric Milk in Ayurveda

Turmeric also known as Haldi, Haridra or Manjal is a very common ingredient one can find in an Indian household. This bright yellow colored ingredient is grown throughout Asia.
It is hot in nature, acquiring dry and light qualities. It is effective in balancing all three doshas which makes it tri-doshic. Its heat balancing quality balances vata and kapha. Its dryness and pungent & bitter taste helps in balancing kapha dosha. Its bitter taste balances pitta dosha.

 

Ingredients Required

– 1 to 1 and a half cups of milk
– 1 tsp of haldi powder
– Ginger (as per your preference)
– 1 cinnamon stick
– Ground cardamom
– A dab of ghee
– Sweetener of your choice (honey or jaggery)

 

How to make Haldi Milk

  1. 1.Warm milk in a saucepan in medium-low flame.
  2. 2.Add turmeric powder, ginger, cinnamon stick and cardamom.
  3. 3.Do not boil but simmer it for good 4-6 minutes or more if you’d like.
  4. 4.After that remove the saucepan from the flame and strain it in a cup.
  5. 5.Add ghee and sweetener of your choice.
  6. 6.Enjoy your nutritious golden milk!
